Shopify product videos with AI: what to make for each product page

Which AI videos each Shopify product page needs, how to make them from your own product photos, a shot list you can copy and what to keep out.

The short answer

Every Shopify product page should have at least one short video that shows the product moving, at real scale, doing the thing it is for. With AI you can make that video from the product photos you already have, then cut the same footage into ads and social posts.

Start from a real photo of the real product, not a text prompt. A generated product that looks slightly different from what arrives in the box creates returns and bad reviews. Use AI for the camera move, the setting and the edit, and keep the product itself exactly as it is.

The four videos a product page needs

You do not need all four on day one. Make them in this order and add the next one when you have time.

  • Hero loop: a clean, silent product shot that loops at the top of the gallery. Slow turn or slow push in on a plain background.
  • In-use clip: the product doing its job. A mug being filled, a bag being packed, a lamp switching on.
  • Scale and detail: the product next to a hand or a common object, then close-ups of texture, stitching, ports or labels.
  • Creator-style review: a person talking about the product in a phone-style frame. This one doubles as an ad.

Shopify themes handle video in the product media gallery. Check your theme's settings for autoplay, looping and whether sound is muted, and keep the hero loop readable without sound.

How to make them from your product photos

  • Shoot or collect clean photos: front, three-quarter, back, detail and one in context. Good light matters more than the camera.
  • For the hero loop, open Create Video in ClickPop, upload the front photo as the first frame and prompt only the move: "Slow 30-degree turn on a plain warm gray backdrop, soft studio light, product unchanged." Try it
  • For the in-use clip, use the in-context photo and describe the action in one sentence.
  • For the review, open UGC at /app/ugc, pick the review or unboxing format, and give it your product photos and three true points about the product.
  • Compare every render to the real product. Check color, logo placement, number of buttons, size. Throw away anything that drifted.
  • Export a square or 4:5 version for the product page and a 9:16 version for social.

Worked example: a ceramic pour-over coffee set

Here is the full set for one product page, with the prompts and the script.

  • Hero loop (6 s): front photo as first frame. "Slow turn on a linen-colored backdrop, morning window light from the left, no steam, product unchanged." Try it
  • In-use (8 s): context photo of the set on a counter. "Hot water pours slowly from a gooseneck kettle into the dripper, steam rises, static camera." Try it
  • Detail (6 s): close-up photo of the glaze. "Very slow macro push across the glaze, shallow depth of field."
  • Scale (4 s): photo of the set next to a hand. "Static, the hand lifts the cup slightly."
  • Review (25 s, UGC, fictional adult creator): "I wanted a pour-over that looks good on the counter. This one's ceramic, so it holds heat while it brews. The cup holds a full mug. The glaze is matte, so fingerprints don't show. It's hand-wash only, so know that going in."

The last line of the review is a limitation. Including one makes the video more believable and sets expectations, which cuts down on returns.

Where else the footage goes

Product videos are the cheapest ad creative you will ever make, because the footage already exists. Reuse the review and the in-use clip as Instagram Reels, TikTok posts and Meta ads. Ad Studio at /app/ad-studio can turn one product into several hooks to test. Put the hero loop on collection pages if your theme supports it, and in abandoned-cart and launch emails as a GIF or linked thumbnail.

If you sell on TikTok Shop or Amazon too, keep a version without your store URL or discount code on screen, because those platforms have their own rules.

What to keep out of product videos

  • Claims you cannot back up. No waterproof, organic, clinically proven or best-selling unless you have proof and the wording meets the rules where you sell.
  • Health claims for supplements, skincare and fitness gear. Describe the product, not what it does to a body. Check the FTC or your local regulator's guidance.
  • Licensed music you do not own. Use music from your video tool or a library you pay for.
  • Real customers or influencers without written consent. Use a fictional creator character for UGC, and say in the caption that the video is AI-made where the platform asks you to.
  • Fake reviews. A creator-style video must not pretend to be a real customer's unpaid opinion.
  • Other brands' logos in the background: a phone, a laptop sticker, a coffee bag.

Mistakes that cost sales

The biggest one is a video that looks better than the product. The second is a video that hides the product behind a long intro. Show the product in the first second, show it in use by the third, and keep the hero loop under ten seconds so it loops without feeling slow.

Do not let each product page look different. Pick one background, one light and one grade for the store and reuse the same prompts, changing only the product photo. A consistent gallery makes a small shop look trustworthy.

Questions

Can I make Shopify product videos without filming?

Yes. Use your product photos as first frames and let AI add the camera move and setting. Keep the product unchanged and compare each render with the real item before you publish.

Do product videos help Shopify sales?

Video helps shoppers see scale, texture and use, which photos struggle with. Results depend on your product and audience, so test pages with and without video and watch your own conversion data.

Can I use AI UGC videos as ads?

Yes, videos you make in ClickPop can be used commercially, including ads. Do not present a fictional creator as a real customer, and follow each ad platform's AI labeling rules.

What size should a Shopify product video be?

Match your product images. If your gallery is square or 4:5, export the video the same shape so the page does not jump when shoppers swipe.
